To finish our learning this half term, we recapped floating and sinking through an independent challenge. After watching a short instructional video, the children were asked to create a range of ‘boats’ to test which floated best and could hold the largest load. There was no method of recording this time, as this challenge was purely to get the children thinking – and doing!
All of their boats were unbelievably successful, the children couldn’t believe how much weight their boats could hold – all made from a single piece of tin foil! Most children noticed that the larger the base of the boat, and the lower the sides, the more weight it could hold! Rose managed to get 32 marbles in hers, and Noah even managed to get 19 x 5p pieces into his small, double-layered tin foil boat!
Enjoy your half term Year 2 – and get excited about our new unit of learning – Plants!
