After practicing our scientific vocabulary last week, we were ready to do more investigating! All children were given the hypothesis ‘Hard Materials cannot absorb water.’ and asked to find out if it is true or not.

First, everyone was asked to find a range of materials around their environment, classifying them into one of two groups: hard or soft. They then tested their ‘hard’ materials, to see whether they absorbed liquid or not – then deciding whether the hypothesis was true or not.

As with our previous investigation, children were given a choice of ways to classify, record and investigate. Below are some of the examples from Year 2.
