2021 British Science Week Day 5

This morning we took a virtual trip all the way to the other side of the world, Australia! At 9.30am, we spoke with Scientist and author, Chris Ferrie, the author of over 100 childrens Science books. He entertained us with his green screen, taking us to lots of funny places! He read us four of his books:

  • 8 Little Planets
  • I LOVE Pluto
  • Scientist, Scientist, who do you see?
  • There was a Black Hole that swallowed the Universe

We were amazed to find out that the final book about Black Holes, had a secret story – if you turned off the lights and turned on a UV light, then you could read the story from back to front, all about the Big Bang!

We then continued to apply our learning about camouflage to create our own ‘camouflage’ pieces, just like Year 6! We hid them all around the school to see which camouflage was the best.

After break, we had a LIVE workshop with Renee Watson, Head of Explosions and Owner of The Curiosity Box, who kindly donated our battery science kits to Y4 before Christmas! She did the workshop ‘Teeth to Toilet!’ and we were all fascinated to learn so much about our bodies – I am sure you all had lots of interesting poo conversations over the dinner table, so my apologies!

Later on we joined Rob Biddulph again for a draw along, this time drawing a Space Alien!

We are all really looking forward to our last day tomorrow!
