2021 British Science Week Day 6

After a week of awesome fun and inspiring opportunities, today is our last day of Science Week!

We started today with a magic show! Dr Matt Pritchard created a incredible show of all sorts of Science based illusions, from balancing forces to do incredible things, to using light to make things disappear!

We then looked at how scientists study insects and use their features to help us in science and technology. Robo bugs are based on real insects. We found out in particular about exploration robo bugs such as the Mars Rover and Marsbees. Robo bugs are used for different purposes including exploration, construction and search and rescue. We then designed our own robo bugs with one of these purposes in mind. We were then able to make prototypes out of household materials. The children were really proud of their models!

After break, we had a LIVE lesson with Dr Geraldine Cox from the University of Cambridge, who told us all about the Sun. We learnt that 70 Billion Neutrinos pass through our skin every second!

In the afternoon, we all took part in a STEAM workshop inspired by the Sun, creating scratch animations, sculptures and artworks of the Sun, the Aurora and other space inspired creations!

We have had an incredible week, and we are so happy to be back with all our friends again! Bring on next week!
