LO: I can identify a microhabitat for a minibeast
After our exciting discovery of four May Bug Larvae last lesson, we explored their microhabitat and designed and built our own minibeast ‘microhabitat’.
After discussing our materials, we agreed that the larva needed something safe and protected (from predators and the weather), damp, warm with lots of little places to hide and crawl. We chose the following materials:
- Compost
- Bark Chippings
- Coconut husk
- Bamboo
- Wool
- Pinecones
- Leaf litter
- twigs and sticks
We built our microhabitat in a terracotta pot, which we designed ourselves, recording our designs in a scientific diagram.
We cannot wait to place these in our new Nature Area in our Back Garden.
