LO: I can design a habitable planet
This week we celebrated World Space Week.
We learnt that the dates which World Space Week takes place each year never change, with it taking place on the 4th October to the 10th October every year, no matter what the day. This is because these dates signify important milestones in our history of Space Exploration.
On the 4th October 1957, Sputnik 1 was launched. We learnt that this was our first satellite, and that it paved the way for all of the things we can’t live with out today, such as: wi-fi, GPS, mobile phones and satellite TV.
On the 10th October, 10 years later, in 1967, the world leaders got together to sign a very important document called the ‘International Treaty of Space Exploration’ which lays out the international laws around how we can behave and use space.
All of the children had great fun designing their planets – ensuring they had all the things to sustain a population, including:
- Sunlight
- Heat
- Water
- Food
- Air
